Come join SF YIMBY and Northern Neighbors on an interactive, augmented-reality tour of the Fillmore District, called Museum of the Hidden City, to explore the history and legacy of urban renewal and residential segregation in San Francisco. This exhibit was designed to educate on failed housing policies of the past, and the roots of San Francisco's housing crisis.

Bring a fully-charged smartphone (works only on iPhone, people can share) and if possible, head phones or ear buds.

Download the free app here. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/museum-of-the-hidden-city/id1469153602

Tour should take about 75 mins. Afterwards we will invite folks for a Happy Hour and discussion about what we can do, as housing advocates and concerned citizens, to undo the sins of the past.

Tour starts at North Side of Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption(Meet on the Geary St. side)

More about Museum of the Hidden City:

This award-winning urban history experience plays out in the Fillmore District of San Francisco. The story focuses on the concept of “Total Planning,” which involves government seizure of land to build what planners see as a better neighborhood. The resulting displacement and protest from this act in the 1960’s has shaped housing policy in San Francisco and the nation ever since.

The project combines augmented reality, geolocated audio and spoken word storytelling developed by our narrators from the Youth Speaks program. We hope the experience gives audiences a tangible understanding of the roots of San Francisco’s current housing crisis.
