SAN FRANCISCO - SF YIMBY is disappointed by Supervisor Wong’s recent actions toward the affordable housing project being constructed at 2550 Irving. His decision to create an inflammatory, NIMBY petition purporting risks to public health is based on scientifically unfounded claims that were thoroughly disproven during the permitting process. This project has brought hundreds of much needed affordable homes to the Outer Sunset, and it has done so safely.
We are also disappointed by and, frankly, surprised at Supervisor Wong’s decision to oppose senior affordable housing at 1234 Great Highway. We urge him to rise to the occasion of addressing San Francisco’s immense affordability crisis by leading on solutions.
We appreciate Supervisor Wong’s support of the Family Zoning Plan and continue to see him as the most pro-housing candidate in the upcoming District 4 supervisorial election. However, we expect better from a city supervisor than peddling NIMBY conspiracy theories and opposing affordable housing projects in his district. Support for affordable homes in the Sunset District comprises an important pillar of San Francisco’s commitment to affirmatively further fair housing and is a necessary component of compliance with California’s pro-housing laws.
We call on Supervisor Wong to both rescind his petition and endorse the proposed project at 1234 Great Highway.
